Live This SZN: How to Actually Use a Season
Everyone saves the ideas. This is the bit about doing them — a small, honest method for getting a season out of a season.
Guide · free · any season · 6 min read

Most people are extremely good at collecting seasonal ideas and quietly terrible at doing them. The pin board fills, the season passes, and the same list reappears next year.
The gap isn't inspiration. It's the three unglamorous steps between wanting something and having done it.
The method, such as it is
- Choose five. Not thirty. A thirteen-week season realistically holds about five deliberate things alongside ordinary life.
- Keep them somewhere you'll see them again — a list you never reopen is a wish, not a plan.
- Give two of them an actual date. The ones with dates happen; the ones without wait for a free Saturday that never arrives.
- Do them badly if necessary. A rushed bonfire-night walk still counts. A perfect one you never took does not.
- Photograph or note one line afterwards. This is the part almost everyone skips, and it's the part you keep.
What makes the shortlist
- One thing that only works in this season and nowhere else in the year.
- One thing that costs nothing — a walk, a hedgerow, a sunset from a specific spot.
- One thing with other people in it.
- One thing you do every year, on purpose, until it becomes a tradition.
- One thing you've never done before.
Seasons are short and that's the useful part
A UK season is about thirteen weeks, and a good fortnight of that is weather you won't want to be out in. The window for anything specifically autumnal is narrower than it feels in early September.
That's not a reason to cram. It's a reason to choose. Five things done beats forty saved, every year without exception.
And the remembering matters as much as the doing. A season you can look back on is a season you had; one you can't is one that simply went past.
Start with one
Keep one idea, plan it, live it, then keep the Moment. That's the whole loop.

- Give two of them a dateKept for later 🤎
- Photograph one thing you actually didKept for later 🤎
Anything you keep lands in My Keeps — ready to plan, live and remember.
Seasonal living questions
- What does seasonal living actually mean?
- Letting what you cook, where you go and how you spend your time follow the time of year, rather than doing the same thing in February as in July. It's a small shift in attention, not a lifestyle overhaul.
- How many seasonal things should I plan?
- Around five deliberate things per season is realistic alongside ordinary life. Two with dates attached, three that can happen whenever a free afternoon appears.
