Autumn at home starts about three weeks before the weather does, and it starts with light rather than pumpkins.

Three changes, no shopping

Light: turn off the big light. Two lamps at different heights beats one ceiling fitting, every time.
Texture: swap smooth for rough. Linen out, wool in — even just folding a throw over the arm of a sofa changes the room.
One surface: clear a single shelf or table completely, then put back three things. It's the one job that makes a whole room look considered.

Warm bulbs. 2700K or lower, in every lamp. It costs a few pounds and does more for how a room feels in October than any amount of decor.
