This one is early on purpose. Flask season arrives the first properly cold morning, and that is always the week the good ones have gone.

It's a small category with an unusually high hit rate — most of it is cheap, most of it lasts years, and most homes only actually need two or three pieces.

What caught our eye

Wide-mouth flasks, because they can be washed properly and take soup as well as tea. Narrow ones look better and get used less.

Heavy, thick-walled mugs. They hold heat long enough that you finish the drink warm, which is the entire point.

Worth buying

One wide-mouth vacuum flask that fits a car cup holder.
Two mugs you actively like, rather than eight you inherited.
A small milk pan if you make hot chocolate more than occasionally.

Worth leaving

Novelty seasonal mugs. Cupboard space is the real cost, not the price.
Travel cups with lids that need three hands.
Anything not dishwasher-safe unless you enjoy washing up.
